little ones...

little ones
hide beneath
their blankets
at night
for when
evening comes,
fear will come
along with it
they dare not peek
because of it
i ask them;
why do you hide?
what is it that
you fear?
it is but the
night
descending upon us
it has
no evil intent
on you or on me
for the realm
of the night
has a ruler
who is not evil
but is someone
who rules with
kindness,
gentleness,
and a quiet
that transcends
for the very reason
of guarding you
and giving you
time to rest
and tranquility
of mind,
most importantly
peace for your soul.
